Out in the field, there are times when spills happen. While you don’t want them to happen and do what you can to prevent them, you know you still need to be responsible and compliant for protecting the environment. Secondary containment pallets allow you to prevent spills from going too far and remain in compliance with EPA standards. Fines and remediation for a spill are costly, in order to have avoid an environmental spill use the pallets that are in line with requirements to contain the spills. Being proactive will save time and money in the long run.
EPA 40 CFR 264.175 states “A base must underlie the containers which is free of cracks or gaps and is sufficiently impervious to contain leaks, spills, and accumulated precipitation until the collected material is detected and removed.” To ensure this, inspect your secondary containment pallets and replace them if they get cracks or contain leaks. If spills happen within the containment pallet, clean them up according to the regulations and dispose of the waste properly.
